Maundy Thursday Celebration at Mount Rosary Church, Santhekatte–Kallianpur

The solemn celebration of Maundy Thursday, 2nd April 2026, commemorating the institution of the Holy Eucharist, the Priesthood, and the commandment of love and service, was devoutly observed at Mount Rosary Church on the evening of 2nd April 2026.

The Holy Mass commenced at 6:00 PM, with a large number of faithful gathering in deep reverence to participate in this sacred liturgy. The Eucharistic celebration was presided over by the main celebrant, Rev. Fr. Rohan Mascarenhas, Assistant Parish Priest of the parish. He was joined by co-celebrants Rev. Dr. Roque D’Souza, Parish Priest, and guest priest Rev. Fr. Vincent Menezes.

The choir rendered soulful hymns, enhancing the spirit of devotion and helping the congregation enter more deeply into the mystery of the Lord’s Supper.

In his homily, Rev. Fr. Vincent Menezes reflected profoundly on the essence of Maundy Thursday, highlighting four key spiritual dimensions: Faith in the Holy Eucharist, affirming it as the true Body and Blood of Christ.

The need for worthy preparation to receive the Lord in Holy Communion.
A call to love and respect priests, despite human shortcomings, as they are chosen instruments of God entrusted with His sacred mission.

The invitation to live and spread the Gospel through loving service, embodying Christ’s commandment to serve one another.

Following the homily, the sacred Washing of the Feet ceremony was reverently conducted by Rev. Dr. Roque D’Souza and the main celebrant Fr. Rohan Mascarenhas. Representatives from various pious organizations, Gurkars, and parish groups participated in this symbolic act of humility and service, recalling Christ’s gesture of love towards His disciples.
After the Holy Mass, the faithful proceeded for Eucharistic Adoration before the Altar of Repose. Rev. Fr. Vincent Menezes led the adoration prayers, inviting all to spend moments in silent prayer and contemplation with the Lord.

The entire celebration concluded at 7:45 PM, leaving the congregation spiritually enriched and inspired.

The Maundy Thursday liturgy beautifully brought alive the triune theme of:
The Institution of the Holy Eucharist, the source and summit of Christian life,
The Institution of the Priesthood, calling chosen servants to continue Christ’s mission,

And the Commandment of Love, urging every believer to serve one another with humility and compassion.

The celebration stood as a powerful reminder that true discipleship lies in deep faith, selfless service, and unconditional love, following the example of Christ Himself.
